LOCATION.

Kabanyolo high school is located in Kabanyolo LCI, Gayaza parish, Nangabo sub – county, Kyadonddo County, Wakiso district. The school is 12 miles from Kampala city centre along Gayaza road, one mile after Gayaza trading centre along Gayaza - Zirobwe road just after Makerere University Agriculture Research Institute Kabanyolo (MUARIK)

Historical Background

The school was founded with an aim of providing quality secondary education; Mr. Ofwono Moses was very instrumental at its inception. Other founding members include Nalubega Davillian Margaret, Ocheng David, Bajukye William.

Aims and objectives of the school

Admission requirements:

a.         ‘O’ level (Senior 1 – Senior 4). A student is admitted after completion of a             primary school cycle with a Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) Certificate or           its equivalent, plus a relevant report card if other wise.

b          ‘A’ level (Senior 5 – Senior 6). Students get admitted after completion of a four    (4) year secondary cycle leading to the award of Uganda Certificate of Education     (UCE) or its equivalent.

Medium of instructions:

All lessons are conducted in English language except luganda and Kiswahili language subjects

Year calendar:

The school follows the national calendar designed by the ministry of education and sports, where the year is divided into three terms i.e. first, second plus third term

Examinations:

In each term students have to sit for three sets of examinations – beginning, mid as well as end of term exams. The end of year examinations is the yard stick for promotion to the next class. Senior 4 plus Senior 6 sit for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as well, respectively. (October – December).

School character:

Kabanyolo high school is a an educational institute, privately owned, day and boarding secondary school offering ordinary plus advanced studies. It attracts students from all parts of Uganda and the neighbouring countries.

Facilities:

These include science laboratories, library, computers, classrooms for all classes, staff quarters, school canteen and a sick bay.

Religious worship and prayers

The school is a God fearing institution. Christians have prayers on the worship days while the Muslims conduct their prayers under the guidance of chaplains during their prayer time.


Curriculum:

The school follows a national curriculum designed by the National Curriculum Development Centre. (NCDC); examined by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Staff:


The school is managed by a well self motivated dedicated and qualified academic staff who graduated from public universities and national teachers’ colleges including:
Makerere University, Islamic university of Uganda, Uganda Christian University Mukono, Kyambogo University, National Teachers Colleges – Unyama, Kaliro, Mubende, Kabale and Nkozi.

Besides, the school employs a good number of teaching and supporting staff such as school bursar, canteen attendant, Nurse, secretary, librarian, office messenger, lab Assistant, cooks, get keepers and watchmen.

Extra- curricula activities and success:

The school actively involves its students in a good number of outside classroom activities. They include football, netball, volleyball, music, dance and drama, athletics, as out door games. The indoor games like badminton, chess, monopoly, luddo, scrabble, darts, and table tennis.

The school participates in district and National competitions; each student has to participate in atleast one activity every term through inter-class and inter-house competitions.

Transport to school:

There are several Taxis from Kampala on the Gayaza stage at any time of the day.
There are also a number of motorcycles from Gayaza trading centre. Students (boarders) are encouraged to arrive at school before 6:00pm.

School canteen:

There is a canteen on the school compound. Almost all students’ needs are catered for.






Lighting system:

Hydro- electricity power is used as the main source of power at the school. Kabanyolo high school has a stand-by generator as well, which provides light energy should there be any power black outs up to 11:45pm and from 4:00 – 6:45am. All classes are served with light.

Leadership / management:

(i) The administration consist of the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Director of Studies (DOS) and Deputy DOS (Teaching, exams and evaluation)
(ii) Students leadership consists of the Prefect Body and the student’s council.

message from Kabanyolo high school

We started in 2008 as a community school with around eight teachers with classes ranging from Senior One to Senior four,however in 2009 there was need to start senior five and six.All the children in the school are about 100.
The school is located on three acres of land.
The school is registered with the Ministry of Education.
The school has a boarding section that has 40 children.
We have disadvantaged and orphanage students,with financial constraint to fully sustain the operations of the school.
